The Cambridge International Centre of Shanghai Normal
University (SNU) was established in December 2005, under direct
management of SNU and authorized by CIE (Cambridge International
Examinations) to teach A level courses and conduct A level
examinations in Shanghai, P. R. China (CIE registration number: CN
265).
A level – the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level is the
'gold standard' of CIE qualifications, and recognized by
universities worldwide. Good A level grades can be a key to
admission for all the world’s major anglophone universities, and in
some countries, A level qualifications can even earn advanced
credit, sometimes can result in up to one full year of course
credit.
Our center has been working closely with the Shanghai Normal
University and shares their high quality teaching facilities and
human resources to provide the best possible education for our
students. We adopt a ‘Doubly Insured’ teaching methodology, which
means we have two sets of teachers – overseas teachers and Chinese
bilingual teachers working cooperatively for each subject. This will
ensure our students benefit from the essence of both the Eastern and
Western educational systems, and learn A level courses in a cost
effective way.
We have teachers from various cultural backgrounds, and our center
is creating our own cultural identity, which includes being kind and
thoughtful towards your colleagues, and sensitive towards other
cultures. Many overseas teachers, even if it is their first
experience in Shanghai, enjoy working within our school and life in
Shanghai.
All of our pupils have received more than 9 years of local
education, many of them have a solid academic background, but due to
the differences between the Chinese and Western education systems,
it would be hard for our students to obtain a place in competitive
universities worldwide. Our centre is aiming to provide a bridge
between the East and West and help each individual pupil to
transform his or her talent into accomplishment – accomplishments
which will make them valued and respected in an increasingly complex
world.
